The controversial recruitment exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) towards the twilight of Maurice Iwu’s inglorious tenure has been cancelled by the electoral body under the leadership of Professor Attahiru Jega. It could be recalled that Iwu hurriedly carried out the recruitment exercise as to plant his men who will continue with his dirty work in INEC.

The electoral body said it took the final decision on the recruitment exercise due to its avowed commitment to honest and transparent delivery of the upcoming general elections.

Indeed, the decision taken by the new Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday to cancel the unethical recruitment exercise carried out under Maurice Iwu has been greeted with applause from well-meaning Nigerians who want merit to reign supreme in employment exercises in the country.

In a five-paragraph statement issued by the commission and signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umenger, INEC said the decision was taken after a careful evaluation of its institutional and human capacities, already undertaken to reposition the commission to deliver on its mandate.

The statement read: “In its avowed commitment to honest and transparent delivery of the upcoming general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission has cancelled the entire staff recruitment exercise conducted early this year.”
